Dyche: Media should take the Conway “Ken doll” out of the package

June 22, 2010

Columnist John David Dyche opines in the Courier-Journal today that the Kentucky media have been beating up on Republican Rand Paul while giving his Democratic opponent in this year’s U.S. Senate race, Jack Conway, a free pass.

I’m not sure I agree with Dyche’s claim, in part because Paul’s comments have warranted more commentary and attention above and beyond that given to Conway’s. I don’t think it’s a reflection of liberal bias or poorly hidden favoritism, but a natural reaction to the more controversial opinions that have been expressed by Paul.

That said, I did like this line from Dyche’s column and the image it creates –

Meanwhile, the press coddles Democrat Jack Conway like a vintage Ken doll that would be worth a lot less if they took him out of the box and played with him.

Dyche provides a laundry list of issues questions that he believes the media should be asking Jack Conway, though I’m certain that a similar list could be supplied for Paul, as well.

Give Dyche’s column a read, and weigh in – is the media giving Jack Conway a pass while piling it on his opponent?
